About the Hub
Please note we will be closed for Christmas from the 21st of December 2nd of January.
Green Skibbereen CLG (GS) is a not for profit, community-based social
enterprise, which was set up in 2020 to develop and promote community
responses to the challenges of climate change. In August 2021 GS established a
Centre of Excellence for Climate and Sustainability (CECAS) at Myross Wood
House and grounds, currently in the ownership of the Missionaries of the
Sacred Heart (MSH). Myross Wood House is set within 30 acres of gardens
including woodland and coastline, overlooking Glandore Harbour, and was
originally a country house dating from the late 18th century until it was
purchased by the MSH in 1946 as a retreat centre.
CECAS is run largely by volunteers and does not currently receive any core
funding. As part of our early revenue-generating activities at Myross, we
started letting out a number of former bedrooms as workspaces in October 2021
and by the end of the year had 15 different work space users including
artists, creative practitioners and health & wellbeing professionals, basing
themselves at CECAS and adding to the vibrancy of the centre, as well as
contributing valuable financial resources. We are excited to be joining
Connected Hubs in 2022 and adding hot-desk facilities to our public offering.
Repair and renovation work on the building is ongoing and although our spaces
are fairly basic at the moment, we are proud to offer a limited number of
modest private work spaces with wifi, running water and heating at competitive
rates, in the heart of West Cork.
In addition to providing affordable workspace, CECAS operates as a venue
hosting sustainability-themed events and training and also offers
accommodation via Airbnb.
